Tiger is back on the prowl

So the merry-go-round of majors reaches Medinah, Chicago for the 2006 USPGA.

It promises to be a beast of a course at a lengthy 7561 yards. That would frighten the living daylights out of the amateur golfers but these boys boom it in the modern game. Even with advances in technology, the world’s elite should find this course a test with three huge par fives (over 575 yards) and a whole rake of trees (300 no.) have been added. Having said that, if you have the length here then there are opportunities to pick up birdies.

Tiger is once again favourite, after his immense display at The Open and recently claimed his 50th PGA tournament win. That is some feat considering he is only just into his 30’s. The odds are slim already and I for one will also be looking further afield.

Chris Di Marco is in good form and has the nerve to push Tiger close and Jim Furyk should be in the mix come the final day.

From a European perspective Padraig Harrington is playing well and should be good enough to secure a top ten finish.

My wild card is Retief Goosen who is due a good major. He is playing solid golf but just not converting the opportunities. I think Medinah could be the turning point for him.
