England 2006 World Cup Squad
This is the only time on this page I will mention the word "Rooney", I really feel for the lad but I'm not going to be gambling my money on something that I have no idea about......who knows how injured he really is apart from the doctor, Man U, The FA....oh and Rooney himself (darn....I said that word again) but I would much rather talk about who is going to get into the 23 man squad that Sven is taking to Germany. I wrote out my list of players who should/will go and then checked the odds to see if I had missed anything.....or more importantly had the market missed something
This is the squad I came up with:
- 3 Keepers - Robinson, James, Green
- 8 Defenders - G.Neville, Terry, Ferdinand, Campbell, Carraher, Bridge, A.Cole, King
- 8 Midfielders - Beckham, SWP, Lampard, Gerrard, Carrick, J.Cole, Jenas, Richardson
- 4 Forwards - Owen, Rooney (drat that's 3 times now), Crouch, Defoe
I don't think I'll be far off....I think Richardson should go to be honest instead of Downing and I am not a fan of Jenas but I think he will be picked. I'm also hoping King will be fit to double up as centre back/holding midfielder.....plus I only have 1 recognised right back but here are the fringe players that might make it
- Hargreaves - Utility Player.....Not many people like him but I do, I think he'd do a job
- Young - Right back......I'm missing cover for Neville even though Carragher could play there
- Downing - Left wing cover, McLaren an asset on the selection panel but I don't think he's good enough
- Bent - May not be in the starting 23 but will be called up if "you know who" isn't fit to be in the squad.
Notice anyone I'm missing? No? What about Wes Brown? I can't see him making the 23....let alone the provisional squad, the first 4 centre backs are taken care of but we also have King who will cover 2 positions...Sven is not going to take 6 players that play in the same position is he? That means Mr Brown is the odd one out so when I see someone wanting to back him at 2.5...I'm going to rip their arm off so that's the bet today. Lets see if we can make a quick couple of points before the tournament starts shall we?
