2006-2007 Season

Greetings to the first post of the new Football Season.......even with the World Cup to keep us warm over the summer we at CalvStar have been itching for the new one to start, especially after our great end to last year and our bumper 25pt profit from the futures bets.

So where to start? The Premiership transfer merry-go-round is still in affect so I'm going to leave my top flight bets until things have calmed down but the football league season starts this weekend and it's time to put my money on the teams I think will be going up and which will be going down

The Championship

Probably one of the hardest leagues in the world to pick whats going to happen.......the easy way out is look at the 3 teams that got dumped last year......Sunderland were appalling last year and even with new owners I haven't seen much transfer activity to change my mind, Birmingham have lost a lot of their decent players but should still have enough quality to see them come close and I have a feeling that DJ Campbell could be a real star this year for them. West Brom in my opinion have the best chance of an early return but at odds of 2.7 that's simply not value. The teams who came close last year seem to have stripped their squads - Palace, Leeds and Preston fall into this category. The only team that have caught my eye is Wolves......these boys always let me down but with Mick McCarthey in charge and a few shrewd signings I think they will go close. The other end of the table Colchester suprised everyone last year by coming up at a canter.....to be honest I still can't believe they are there everytime I look at the table and with them losing there manager and best player I am tipping them to make a swift return this year.

League 1

After coming close last year (when lets be honest they should of skated this league) I can see Forest making a swift return to Championship football, they have a good manager in Calderwood and kept the same team that came close last year......I fancy them to both go up and go up as Champions. The other team I like the look of is Huddersfield, they have been very solid in pre-season and if they can get Luke Beckett scoring they are going to be tough to beat.

League 2

There are a couple of teams I'm interested in here, Swindon have been making the right moves this summer, Dennis Wise has joined them and they could also bring in Paul Ince which would give them a lot of experience.....not sure how much they will play but if they do then they will be the force in this league. The other team is the MK Dons......I feel a bit dirty tipping up Franchise FC but they have has a superb pre-season and with a VERY good manager in Danny Wilson I can see them bouncing back from relegation last year and back into League 1.
