The Final

Ok ok ok....so the Swiss tip never got off the ground but I am not worried about a triffling matter like sp*nking 3pts on a short price loser to come back with a few tips on the final. After spending my Thursday night watching the semi final and then listening to the rest of the entires have a little check list of what I'm looking for in a winner for this comp

The "look" band......either good looking girls (see Ukraine a couple of years ago) or the craziest (Finland last year)
Novelty - Finland shocked everyone last year by winning it with a Rock act (I refuse to call it Death Metal, Speed Metal as I could actually hear th lyrics compared to most Death Metal acts where I want to punch the those stupid manufactured Clown face wearing loser Slipknot mugs) so look for swing bands (Germany), Opera (Latvia) and lots of gender confused wannabes
Geography + Politics - Lets be honest even if John Lennon was still alive today and he ceated "Imagine" (tuneless dirge to me but the rest of the world like it) especially for Eurovision we still wouldn't win, everyone hates Britain at the moment so look to the "friendly" countires. Don't expect Israel to garner many votes with "Push the button" but expect Balkan states to dominate the Top 10
oh yes and a decent tune wouldn't hurt either

Right so who does that leave us with? Well Ukraine are favourites.......why I have no idea and will not be touching them, if they win then good luck to those who backed them but I can't get on board this at all.

I like Russia......in more ways then one but they tick most of the boxes up top, 3 pretty young things singing in English and the song is not 'arf bad. Expect 12 pts from Ukraine as a head start and the rest of the Balkans should weigh in with some as well, looks good for Top 10 and even Top 4

Latvia are the dark horses in my opinion....a lot of rumours have been flying round that they won the Semi Final and with their operatic style and geezers dressed in Top Hats they must be a good punt for a Top 10 + Top 4 to.......Balkan state so here is another tip.

My big bet is Serbia who has the best singer in this competition FULL STOP.......this could be a massive error in expecting the rest of Europe to recognize talent when they see it but this should be Top 4 she doesn't quite tick 1 of the boxes above (and no it's not novelty, I class this as a novelty song mainly because its the only proper singer in the competition) but erm....well she's not the best looking lady in the event but I'm going for her anyway.......if there is a Eurovision god then he will smile down on this act.....god speed Marija.

And finally the fun tip on another song which should do well is Germany, a full on rat pack style swing band with a big song, good looking band and something a bit different (no the singer is not the same one from Orson BTW). The bookies have overlooked these guys and they are a HUGE price to be Top 10.........the reason I'm not piling in is I don't fancy the politics much and the song is in German (most of the winning songs have been English) but for a cheeky 1pt I'll take this to suprise a few people (with thanks to Pingirl for pointing me in this direction)

Semi Final

I love the Eurovision........I know it's rubbish and cheesy but it's cheesy goodness and with an evening with Wogan (who lets be honest is getting madder by the year) is always good fun and the markets are a haven for betting. I don't normally put up tips for this each year as my betting is done "in-running" but I'm going to give it a go this year starting with the Semi Finals on Thursday night.

The 1 bet I can put up right now (and will be the only bet of the night is Switzerland to qualify......1.5 is not the best price in the world but it's practically buying money. The artist DJ Bobo already has a ggood sounding name for this comp (i.e. cheesy euro pop) but is an established artist already in his home land and the song "Vampires are alive" is random enough to make people come and vote for it. We'll take that as our first tip and then be back Saturday to give our tips for the final........see you then
